Harbour Town Development, (Docklands)

This project represented one of the largest retail developments in Australia, delivered on a highly challenging site underlain by the notoriously unstable Coode Island silt. The redevelopment required significant geotechnical investigation and specialist engineering to address low bearing capacity and high compressibility conditions, which posed substantial risks to both stability and constructability.

The project team implemented a range of ground improvement strategies, foundation systems, and construction methodologies to safely manage the site’s geological complexity. The 410,000 m² retail precinct was successfully delivered, achieving Practical Completion in 2008.

In addition to the retail centre itself, the development incorporated upgraded pedestrian bridges and a network of escalators to link two expansive retail levels. These circulation upgrades enhanced connectivity, improved customer experience, and cemented the development’s position as a premier shopping destination.
